Winter Workout Gear Designed to Keep You Toasty

by Keely McCormick

If you’re anything like me, finding the motivation to work out can be, well, tough to say the least. Finding the motivation to work out in the winter? Even tougher.

My method to staying determined (besides the whole ya know, being healthy thing) is buying cute athletic clothes. I am very much a believer in if you look good, you feel good. And going to the gym or a workout class is no different. Having a stash of workout clothes you actually want to be seen in is motivation enough to hit the gym. While all of the matching sports bra and legging sets are cute, they’re not very practical if where you live is currently freezing like NYC. Keep reading to discover the must-have winter workout pieces you need in your closet ASAP.

A Good Pair of Leggings

Where would the world be without leggings? I’m just saying. While you can find leggings pretty much anywhere, investing in a quality pair is key. Not only will they last longer, but they’re often made out of a thicker material that will keep you warm throughout the winter. This pair from Girlfriend Collective comes in a ton of sizes and colors (the lime green is truly speaking to me) plus, they’re affordable and sustainable!

A Lightweight Jacket

If you like to run (more power to you) or just generally exercise outside, a lightweight weather-proof jacket is a must. This one from Outdoor Voices is made with a super comfy, weather-resistant fabric that makes it perfect for frigid weather. It also has plenty of pockets to hold all of your belongings while you sweat it out.

A Cute Hoodie

I’m all about versatility, and a cute hoodie or sweatshirt is the perfect example of being versatile. Not only can you wear this fantastic Free People hoodie to work out, but it’s also cute enough to rock on any given day. Talk about a win-win.

Merino Wool Socks

Something I never really paid much attention to before I started exercising were socks. I obviously wore socks before working out, but now I like finding pairs that are warm, comfortable, and moisture wicking. Merino wool socks are amazing for the winter because they keep you warm and naturally help wick out any moisture. These socks from Bombas have a cushioned foot bed, seamless toe, and stitched heels to fit your feet perfectly. Plus, for every purchase from the brand, they will donate an article of clothing to a homeless shelter.

A Warm Beanie

I don’t know about you, but once my ears are cold it’s over for me. Whether you’re running, biking, or just traveling to the gym, a warm hat is a must. This beanie from Athleta comes in a few fun colors and it’s made of wool for maximum coziness.

Waterproof Sneakers

While the design of most waterproof sneakers may be underwhelming, the functionality of them certainly isn’t. Even if you work out inside, having a pair of waterproof sneakers to wear through the rain or the snow is super important. This pair from Vessi is super lightweight, 100% waterproof, and incredibly comfortable. They’re also environmentally friendly which is always a plus in my book.
